Old railing posts + a few cuts = cute candlesticks!
Before you cut, you'll want to decide if you want to shoot nails through the center of the block ends for your candle to stick onto. If you do, then....
...you'll want to take note of the longest nails you have so you can cut the blocks short enough so that 1/4 - 1/2" of the nail will poke out. I had 2" nails for my nail gun. You CAN use regular nails+hammer but be aware that the wood can split easily going through end grain; ensure your nails are as thin as possible and consider pre-drilling a hole slightly smaller than your nail to prevent breakage.
Chop your posts so you have 2 main sections and 2 blocks from the ends (1/2" shorter than your nails). Shoot 2 nails through the center-backside of your blocks so they can exit through the other side without hitting anything. Be smart and think "where would this nail go if it shot all the way through my wood piece?"
PS - one thing to note before shooting your nails through is to see if the metal tab on the bottom of your candles (for the wick) will interfere with the nails (I kept my nails spaced 1" to avoid the metal).
End grain isn't ideal for gluing but I figured it would work fine enough for candlesticks + nails. I put a generous amount on each top...
...and centered + nailed the blocks to the top.
Holy heavens that was easy!
Stick your candles on and you're good to go!
